How To Give Yourself A Home Facial

I have been doing my own home facials since I was 24. I bought a book written by Victoria Principal on how she kept herself beautiful and I have been doing them ever since. Disclaimer: This blog involves boiling water. Be careful! This system may have been used for hundreds of years!

It is your responsibility to read this article in full before attempting this method on your own face. Its the old fashioned method of handling a cold really. Put your head over a bowl of hot water with a towel over your head. It is so simple.

Why do we complicate it by going along to a beautician and pay to use their steam machine? We naturally lose one layer of skin a month. Steaming your face simply helps that layer lift off. You can steam clean your face once a month to keep it looking youthful. Steam cleaning also helps the blood circulation come to the surface of your skin again and gets rid of any red blotches that you have.

You will also need to not do it too close to a public event as pimples can also erupt in the week following a cleanse. The method is to get a bowl of hot water. Don’t use boiling water as this will burn your face. Add cold water to it but to a point where you can still see steam rising from the water. You will learn over time what is the best temperature for you as we all sweat at different temperatures.

The point of the hot water is to make you sweat. So your personal sweating temperature is what we want! It is up to you what sort of bowl you use. I use a glass mixing bowl from the kitchen. It has a top that is wide enough to clearly cover my face and it is heavy enough to feel stable when I put it on the dining table.

Get a good quality face scrub and put that on the table too as you will need it. By good quality I do not mean expensive. My good quality face wash comes from my local supermarket. It is good quality because it has a lot of small ground up bits in it.

Some face scrums are creamier with less bits’ in it. And others have bits’ in it that are very soft. So a good quality face scrub has lots of bits’ in it that are not soft. Next you will need a nice large towel. It needs to fit all the way over your head and tuck in around your neck. Boil the water, and set it to your temperature and sit it on the dining table. Clear any other interruptions from your mind, or house, that's if you have husbands or children that might interrupt!

You are not to be interrupted during this time! I also turn the radio off and enjoy the peace and quiet too. Sit down and put the towel over your head. If the water is still a little warm just lift the towel at the front a little to release the steam. Continue steaming for at least 5 minutes, stay longer if it feels right for you.

The important thing is that every pore on your face needs to be opened. Turn your face from side to side so that the steam hits all of it to get those pores open. Next is the scrub so lift the towel off your head for the next phase. Get some scrub and scrub every little nook and cranny in your face. Sit there and give it a good scrub for several minutes.

Then head off to the shower to wash it all off. You can cool the water in the bowl and wash it off with a face washer or flannel if you prefer. Next is the moisturising phase. Steaming is harsh on your skin. Use any moisturiser that you like. I have a separate eye cream that I use too.

Once your skin is clean moisturise your face. Continue to moisturise your face every two hours for the rest of the day or evening. Steaming is a very harsh activity to do on your skin and so be kind to your skin and moisturise it every couple of hours for it to recover. You will notice a distinct difference after 3 days. Your skin will feel fresher and your face tightens up a lot.

Your skin will also be smooth as though someone took to your face with sand-paper(emery-paper). People may compliment you on how nice you are looking but they won’t be able to spot what it is that has changed.

The Best Face Cream - 3 Steps to Finding an Effective Facial Moisturizer

>> Wednesday, April 21, 2010

Are you tired of switching from one brand to another in your search for the best face cream? If your answer is yes, you are not alone. The truth is that the skin care market is full of products that do not live up to their promises; hence, this article is going to tell you how to separate effective facial creams from those that do not work.

3 Steps to finding the best face cream

1. Mineral oil - Most of the moisturizers on the market contain mineral oil, which can also be listed on the label as petrolatum, paraffin wax or liquid paraffin; mineral oil is widely used in the skin care industry as an emollient because it is cheap. The problem is that instead of keeping your skin hydrated, it coats the skin and blocks your pores, thereby making it almost impossible for your skin to breathe or remove toxins.

It eventually leads to dryness and allergic reactions (acne breakouts).Aside from mineral oil, you should also avoid any facial moisturizer that contains chemicals like fragrances, parabens, dioxane, sulfates and alcohols; not only do these chemicals dry your skin, they are also harmful to your body.

2. Natural Plant Oils - The best face cream should contain natural plant oils because they are similar to the sebum found in your body; hence, they keep your skin hydrated without making it oily or blocking your pores. Some of the effective natural emollients that the best facial moisturizer should contain are Babassu, Jojoba oil, Avocado oil, Grapeseed oil and Maracuja.

3. Collagen stimulant - The best face cream should also contain natural collagen stimulant like Cynergy TK; this will help to trigger the natural production of collagen and elastin in your body, thereby making your skin firm, plump and smooth. Cynergy TK also helps to remove visible signs of aging such as lines, wrinkles and age spots; thus it makes your skin look younger.

Simple Steps to a Fantastic Home Facial

>> Wednesday, March 31, 2010

If you feel that your skin badly needs some deep cleansing and a little bit of reinvigorating, you can always have a facial. Actually, in order to maintain a supple, soft and youthful-looking face and neck, you need to undergo this treatment at least once a month, especially if you are over 30.

However, not many could afford a monthly trip to a salon, spa or dermatology clinic just to have their face prepped and cleaned. If you are one of these people who would want to have fabulous skin but do not want to pay a large sum for a facial treatment in a salon, spa or clinic, do not despair. You can actually have your treatment in the comforts of your own home.

Here is a step-by-step guide to an easy and effective home facial:

Step One:

CleanseAny treatment that concerns the skin usually begins with getting off the grime, dirt and makeup on your skin. Thus, the first step to an effective facial is by applying a cleansing cream all over your face and neck.

You must leave the product on your skin for at least two minutes to give it time to dissolve dirt, make up and oils. Then, just wipe your face with a clean cloth, cotton wool, or facial tissue.

Step Two:

ExfoliateTo remove deep-seated dirt and dry skin cells, you need to moisten your skin with warm water and put on a facial scrub, particularly the ones with micro beads. Gently massage
the product on your face. Just make sure that you avoid the delicate area surrounding your eyes. After a while, rinse off with tepid water.

Step Three:

SteamPlace a basin of boiling water, preferably one kettleful, in front of you. Then, lean over the basin and cover your head with a towel so that the steam will directly reach your face. But do not lean too low because you do not want to burn your face in the process. Make sure that you stay in this position for about five minutes.

Hot steam will open up your pores. If you have problems with blackheads and whiteheads, you can actually try removing them by pressing affected areas with your fingers. Just make sure that your hands are clean and the areas to be squeezed are covered with strong tissue paper.

Step Four:

MaskPlace a facial mask all over your face. Just follow the instructions on the back of the product that you are using. If you have oily face, it is advisable to choose an exfoliating or clay-based mask. If your skin is dry, what you need is a moisturizing mask; this will help your skin retain much-needed moisture on your face.

Step Five:

Close Your PoresWhen the mask feels taut and dry, you can now rinse it off completely. It is best to remove the product with warm water. Your pores tend to open up after being in contact with steam or warm water; to prevent dirt from entering your pores, you need to close them. To do this, splash your face with cool water, concentrating on the areas where your pores are quite large. Dry your skin with a soft towel.

Step Six:

ToneIn order to refresh your skin and get rid of excess oil, apply a facial toner on areas that are prone to acne and other blemishes; put special attention to your nose, forehead and chin. If you have extremely dry skin, you can skip this step.

Step Seven:

Treat Your EyesApply a generous amount of eye cream or gel on the areas surrounding your eyes. Your eyes also need some attention whenever you are having a facial.

Step Eight:

MoisturizeAfter the cleansing, rinsing, steaming and toning, your face is now ready to get moisturized. Thus, apply a good amount of moisturizer all over your face and neck. This is important in keeping your skin soft and supple and your complexion even. One moisturizer you can use, during your monthly facials or even during your daily beauty regimen, is Dermaxin.
